Alexandre Desplat to receive Max Steiner Film Music Award in Vienna

Film composer Alexandre Desplat will receive the prestigious Max Steiner Film Music Award in Vienna this October. The award is given for exceptional achievement in the art of film music. Past winners include: James Newton Howard, James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore and Randy Newman. The gala in Vienna will include a concert featuring a selection of Desplat’s film music.

Desplat’s name may not be immediately familiar compared to that of John Williams for example, but his film scores are no less exceptional. He won the Oscar for Best Original Score for his music for The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). He also composed the music for The Imitation Game (2014), Argo (2012), The King’s Speech (2010) and The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), and is currently writing the music for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
