It always hurts when an actor or actress passes away. But when the actor is the same age as you (as was the case with Anton Yelchin), it hurts many many times worse.
I was shocked, stunned and horrified to learn that Anton Yelchin, who played Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek films, among many other roles, was killed yesterday morning in what can only be described as a freak accident involving his own car. I didn’t watch many of Yelchin’s films, but I saw enough to know that he had an amazing talent and that he was taken way too soon.
My thoughts are with Anton’s family and fellow actors, I can barely imagine the pain they are going through. I also wanted to share an image I found on tumblr (credit to mrscratch0753.tumblr.com) that sums everything up:
One final thought: as I was walking to work this morning, I saw a number of Jacob’s Ladders up in the sky. A Jacob’s Ladder is when you can see rays of sunlight streaming down to the ground, and it refers to the Biblical story where Jacob sees a big staircase climbing up to heaven. There’s a legend that says when you see a Jacob’s Ladder, that means souls are going up to Heaven. I’d like to think that the Jacob’s Ladders I saw today are a sign that Anton is up there even now. Rest in Peace Anton, we all miss you.
