Random thoughts on Game of Thrones “Winds of Winter”

I know I’ve never mentioned this before, but I am actually a HUGE Game of Thrones fan, and after that finale for season 6…I have GOT to comment, because, well, because!!! I know I don’t normally write about television, but I’m making an exception for this episode.

*warning, I’m going to talk about anything and everything that happened so if you don’t want to be spoiled turn back now!!*

So first I’m going to start with Cersei, oh my gosh she freaking blew up the Sept of Baelor, Lannister. Of ALL the things I thought she MIGHT do, blowing up the biggest church in King’s Landing along with simultaneously murdering Tommen’s wife and her brother, the High Sparrow, her uncle, the head of the Tyrell family, and who knows how many septons, septas and bystanders, along with the Faith Militant, was not one of them!! I’ve suspected it for a while, but it’s official: Cersei is CRAZY!! Maybe she was always crazy, but now she’s got no one to restrain her (as evidenced by her blowing up the Sept of Baelor).

I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I saw that Cersei had herself crowned Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. I knew that she desired power, but she can’t seriously think that she’s going to be able to hold onto that throne for any long duration of time does she? There’s a huge fleet of ships coming, most of which are marked with the Targaryen sigil, and there’s also three really big dragons. And did I mention those ships are filled with some of the most fearsome warriors in the world? I mean, between the Dothraki and the Unsullied (and dragons), King’s Landing is screwed.

Oh, and one more thought on Cersei: Jaime is absolutely going to kill her. Did you SEE that look of death that he was shooting at her as she was being crowned? Whatever love he still felt for his twin is dead and buried. All of his children are dead, Cersei has blown up the Sept of Baelor, and now she’s made herself Queen. As much as I want to see Cersei be turned into dragonfood, I’m pretty sure Jaime is going to throttle the life out of her when she least expects it (after all, he is technically her younger brother as well, since Cersei was born first).

Now on to Jon Snow/Targaryen. I reached the conclusion of R + L = J I think by the time I reached A Clash of Kings, so it felt really nice to finally, FINALLY see it confirmed on screen. The million dollar question now is, how exactly is this information going to be shared with everyone else? Because right now, as far as we know, only Bran knows about this (Howland Reed is supposed to too, but I’m not sure if we’ve met him yet). Assuming that people DO believe he’s the son of Rhaegar when the facts (inevitably) get out, I think he does have a better claim to the throne than Daenerys, since Jon would be the son of the crown prince Rhaegar, while Dany is just his younger sister. I half-suspect that Jon and Dany are going to make a mutual alliance to fight the White Walkers and seal that alliance via marriage.

Did anyone else cheer just a little when Arya appeared to get revenge on Walder Frey for what happened to her mother and brother? I really hope that Arya does reunite with Sansa and Jon, because right now I’m pretty sure the rest of Westeros wrote her off as dead years ago.

Final thoughts:

I’m going to miss Margaery Tyrell, she was an interesting character

I’m also going to miss Tommen, despite his incestuous parentage, he tried really hard to be a good ruler, he was just easily manipulated.

Given how shocking the season 6 finale was with the Sept of Baelor blowing up and all, I’m rather scared to see what’s going to happen by the end of season 7 because this show has topped itself every year. Are we finally going to see King’s Landing burn?

And, what are the people going to think of Queen Cersei? I predict rioting in the streets!!
