Hello everyone! I’m Becky (I also go by Bex), I am 28 years old and currently in my 5th year of earning my PhD. in Musicology.I’m now fully enmeshed in the process of writing my dissertation, so if I disappear at random times, or suddenly post less, that’s why.

I think part of the reason I love movies and music so much is because my Asperger’s (autistic spectrum) makes it difficult at times to relate or communicate with people or certain situations, and music and movies provide that outlet, that release for me. I grew up listening to Disney soundtracks (particularly The Lion King), and those songs always stuck in my head. It made me so happy when I reached graduate school and was informed that I could indeed study film music for my career.

Metropolis is one of my favorite movies, EVER.

I specialize in film music with an emphasis on the music of science fiction cinema. That’s what most of my movie collection centers around, name the science fiction film, I have probably seen it (though I don’t own them all…yet.)

Since I specialize in film music, this blog mostly features articles on the music in films, though I will write about films in general, or composers, or sometimes random film related things (I usually find a way to involve music somehow though).

Why Film Music Central? I gave my blog this name because, when I created it, I had the idea of making a hub for all information relating to film music and film composers (that’s one reason why I’m finding as many composer interviews as I can, so anyone who’s interested can come to one place and find what they need).

My favorite film composers are Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner, though I enjoy the work of too many film composers too count (I rarely meet a film score I don’t like).

I also love to discuss Disney movies, and anything animated (especially anime and Looney Tunes cartoons, I know, I have eclectic tastes). I have also been working on a paper looking at the music of the Tom and Jerry short “His Mouse Friday” (1951).

I am also a huge fan of Game of Thrones (the books and the tv show), Star Trek (excluding the rebooted films) and Star Wars.

You can find me on Twitter @filmusiccentral and you can find my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/filmmusiccentral (please “like” it if you get the chance)

I hope you enjoy reading about film music, please feel free to leave comments or begin a discussion!

hey, thanks for letting me know, unfortunately with my dissertation writing taking over more of my time, I don’t really have time right now for blogathons, but I hope yours goes well 🙂
